I received the book Sweet crochet by Sandrine Deveze as a Christmas present.
The pattern for the polar bear is based on the pattern for the fox (portrait of reynard). I changed the colors and just like that the fox is a polar bear. I added the crochet scarf for fun.
The pattern is available in French (original) in the book Tendre crochet by Sandrine Deveze. It is also translated to English and called Sweet crochet. I think her book is most recognizable from the crochet pears pattern.
I used Phildar Partner 6 from my stash and crochet needle 4.
For me the difficulty level was a 2 on a scale from 1 (simple) to 5 (difficult). It is a relatively easy and fast project.
I recommend the book, it is so lovely! I enjoyed making the protrait. As allways the original from the book looks better than my version. l'm not sure about the nose/face. Maybe I stuffed it too much, maybe I should have lowered the eyes... It can't be hung, because the face is too heavy. My son is very happy with it - not hanging but laying on his desk. I'm not 100% satisfied, but moving on to other patterns in the book. Hopefully I'll have more luck with these.
What I learned
For Dutch readers. In Dutch the terminology for increasing a stitch is very different from English crochet. For example "inc1 dc1" means 2dc in the first stitch and 1 dc in the next stitch.
